Beekeeping

Beekeeping has a long tradition in the area of Slovenska Bistrica. Local beekeepers produce numerous types of honey, pollen, beeswax, propolis, honey beverages etc. Beekeepers are members of beekeeping associations and many schools offer beekeeping as an extracurricular activity. In 2011, the association of local beekeepers set up the Beekeeping Educational Trail in the village of Zgornja Bistrica.

In 2014 the Municipality of Slovenska Bistrica received the recognition Bee-friendly Municipality assigned by the Slovenian Beekeepers’ Society.
