Ančnikovo gradišče
Ančnikovo gradišče on Pohorje is an archaeological site where the remains of a fort built in the Late Antique and used throughout the Early Middle Ages can be seen. The fort was located above the Bistrica gorge at an elevation of 750m above sea level. Blacksmith items, weaponry, tools, coins, earthenware and, most interestingly, bronze statues of Mercury and Apollo, have been found here. The site lies close to Tinje, a village whose name most probably originates from the old Slavic word „Tyn“, denoting a fortified space. There are no less than four such forts in the area surrounding the village and Ančnikovo gradišče, which can be visited throughout the year, is the most well-known among them. It can be reached on foot through the Bistrica Gorge, or with a car, in which case the road will take you through the village of Jurišna vas.
